Australasian Fig Bird - Cedar Creek

Image
These guys love the small leaf fig tree when it fruits - Mr and Mrs.

Azure Kingfisher - Cedar Creek

Image
A stunning looking local who inhabits the local creek under the rainforest canopy.

Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo - Cedar Creek

Image
One of my favourite birds - a bit hard to see as they like to keep to the tops of the mature tall trees.

Egret - St Helena Island

Image
These photos are of the greater egret. This is the little egret - noting the different colour bill.

White Faced Heron - St Helena Island

Golden Whistler - St Helena Island

Not sure if I am looking harder these days but there seems to be a lot more of these birds around at this time of year than I have noticed in previous years. Here are some shots from Cedar Creek.

Mangrove Honeyeater - St Helena Island

Image
Must of been finding a feed on the Casuarina trees on St Helena Island foreshore.

Black-Winged Stilt - St Helena Island

Image
Found a colony of these on beach on St Helena Island with a number of them foraging around the foreshore. A white-faced heron photo bombing this shot.

Pied Oyster Catcher - St Helena Island

Image
Always find these along our local beaches and islands. Not sure who photo-bombed who in this shot

Pied Cormorants - St Helena Island

Image
So do you know the difference between a pied cormorant and the little pied cormorant?  A couple of cm's and a shorter stubbier beak...but this one might be on the larger end of the spectrum.... Getting my cormorants in a row!

Mistletoe Bird - St Helena Island

Image
I was very happy to see this little bird flitting around the trees on St Helena Island last time I was over there.  I used to have these as regular visitors when I first moved into Cedar Creek when the paddocks were overgrown and there were lots of stands of lantana - but after clearing the paddocks out these visits have become rarer.

Crested Tern - St Helena Island

Image
One of our sea side regulars...

Bronze Winged Cuckoo - St Helena Island

Image
Had an amazing couple of hours wandering around this island and came up with about 20 different species of birds.  It is a short paddle from the mainland and well worth a visit with your camera.  This was like a spring day in winter.

Eastern Spinebill - St Helena Island

Image
I still haven't got a photo of one of these I am happy with - they are very fast honey eaters and never sit still for long unless it is the top of one of my mature rainforest trees which means a bottom view.  I came across these birds on St Helena Island, but I have also seen them at Cedar Creek and on top of ship sterns bluff in Lamington National Park - all in June. This is the bottom view I get from home .... An update with some shots from Cedar Creek
