My Bird Photography

These guys love the small leaf fig tree when it fruits - Mr and Mrs.

A stunning looking local who inhabits the local creek under the rainforest canopy.

One of my favourite birds - a bit hard to see as they like to keep to the tops of the mature tall trees.

These photos are of the greater egret. This is the little egret - noting the different colour bill.

Not sure if I am looking harder these days but there seems to be a lot more of these birds around at this time of year than I have noticed in previous years. Here are some shots from Cedar Creek.

Must of been finding a feed on the Casuarina trees on St Helena Island foreshore.

Found a colony of these on beach on St Helena Island with a number of them foraging around the foreshore. A white-faced heron photo bombing this shot.

Always find these along our local beaches and islands. Not sure who photo-bombed who in this shot

So do you know the difference between a pied cormorant and the little pied cormorant?  A couple of cm's and a shorter stubbier beak...but this one might be on the larger end of the spectrum.... Getting my cormorants in a row!

I was very happy to see this little bird flitting around the trees on St Helena Island last time I was over there.  I used to have these as regular visitors when I first moved into Cedar Creek when the paddocks were overgrown and there were lots of stands of lantana - but after clearing the paddocks out these visits have become rarer.

One of our sea side regulars...

Had an amazing couple of hours wandering around this island and came up with about 20 different species of birds.  It is a short paddle from the mainland and well worth a visit with your camera.  This was like a spring day in winter.

I still haven't got a photo of one of these I am happy with - they are very fast honey eaters and never sit still for long unless it is the top of one of my mature rainforest trees which means a bottom view.  I came across these birds on St Helena Island, but I have also seen them at Cedar Creek and on top of ship sterns bluff in Lamington National Park - all in June.
